Can we please ask that you think carefully about adoption, and only fill in an adoption application form if you do actually want to adopt in the future.
Things are extremely busy in the world of rescue, everywhere is pushed to their limits, and sadly that is no different for us, as we experience unprecedented times with 27 whippets currently needing our help to find new homes.
We work tirelessly everyday to help the whippets, and finding them the right new homes is always our top priority. We spend hours everyday going through adoption applications and contacting people to discuss their requirements, home environment, suitability to adopt, and to arrange home checks etc. Sadly at the moment we are finding that most of the applications we contact have either found a dog elsewhere, or have changed their minds about adopting. Some from adoption applications we’ve received only days ago.
I’m sure you can appreciate that this is extremely time consuming for us, and it also delays the whippets finding their new homes.
We keep adoption applications on file for 6 months after you apply, if in this time you adopt elsewhere or change your mind, PLEASE let us know by dropping us a quick email to adopt@jrwhippetrescue.uk so that we can delete your application from the system and not waste valuable time trying to make contact with you.
If you have filled in an application and think ‘why haven’t they contacted me about adopting’, it will be because we haven’t got round to your application yet, or because you don’t suit any of the dogs currently in our care.
Although we have 27 looking for homes, we do want to stress that they all have individual needs and requirements. All the dogs we have looking for homes at the moment need support in some way, with severe separation anxiety, reactivity or medical conditions. We also have dogs that need experienced homes without children or other pets etc.
The welfare and happiness of the whippets is always our main priority, and we will not allow dogs to go to new homes unless we feel they are 100% suited to each other.
