Adoption Update – Please Read Before Applying

2026 has begun at a very busy pace, with many whippets needing our help and a high number of adoption enquiries. Since 1st January alone, we have received over 200 adoption applications, which is wonderful and greatly appreciated. Unfortunately, not all applicants are suited to the specific needs of the dogs currently waiting for homes.

Many rescue whippets arrive with challenges such as separation anxiety, severe reactivity, medical needs, or requirements for particular home environments. Some need quieter households, some cannot live with children or other pets, and others simply need experienced, patient owners who can help them adjust and thrive.

We have approved homes waiting and we have whippets looking for homes, but we will only match dogs where the fit is right. Responsible rehoming is at the heart of what we do, and our thorough checks and careful matching process ensure every dog is placed where they have the best chance of success. We provide lifetime support, including guidance and training assistance where behavioural work is needed, but adopters must be committed to putting in the necessary time and effort.

All rescue animals come with a history, and if you are hoping for an instant “perfect” dog, rescue may not be the right route. However, for those willing to be patient and understanding, helping a rescue dog grow in confidence and flourish is one of the most rewarding experiences there is.

We currently have a long waiting list of people hoping to adopt older, calmer, “ready-made” whippets. While these dogs do occasionally become available, they are rare, so applicants seeking this type of match should be prepared for a wait. We also have far more applications for girls rather than boys, which is such a shame because the boys can be so incredibly loving and are just as deserving of a forever home.

At present, we especially need adopters who are open to supporting dogs with behavioural or confidence needs. We have whippets of all ages, from puppies to seniors, waiting for understanding homes.

Rescue dogs need time, patience, and reassurance. They need to feel safe in their new environment and build trust and a bond with their people. It’s important to understand that most rescue dogs won’t be ready for busy outings, cafés, or pub trips straight away. They need routine, consistency, guidance, and love so that, in time, they can build confidence and enjoy these experiences if and when they feel comfortable.

Rescue is so rewarding, but please be prepared to help them thrive.
